In our office we use the PerioLase laser, which is a new FDA-approved laser. I say it's new. It's been around for about ten years. It's only been commercially available for about five. And, of course, we've had it for four-and-a-half years. That's one of the things that patients always coming in looking for technology. And in our office, we treat gum disease with the PerioLase laser.

If you were to have gum problems and end up going to a gum specialist, many times they'll cut the gums away. Well, this is totally opposed to that. This is actually going underneath the gums, kind of cleaning out and sterilizing the pocket so that we can get new bone growth. And, again, it's FDA-approved for bone growth. It's a very, very fast growing area in dentistry and it's something that patients afterwards are taking maybe a couple of ibuprofen. It's a very simple procedure, very minimal amount of discomfort. And so it's really wave of the future as far as treating gum disease.
